During WW1 Telephones Were The Military’s Newest / Best Way To Communicate Between Battlefront & Headquartersīy the start of the 1900s – the idea of picking up a telephone & instantly chatting with someone was becoming very popular – it was the Internet / Social Media of the day – and telephone exchanges – facilities that housed manual telephone switchboards and switchboard operators – were sprouting up in cities around the world. WW1 saw a scale of science & technology innovation of unprecedented impact – reshaping warfare with the introduction of heavy artillery / machine guns / tanks / motorized transport vehicles / high explosives / chemical weapons / airplanes / advanced medical technologies. World War I (WW1) was the first modern mechanized industrial war – in which material resources & manufacturing capability were as critical as the bravery & skill of the troops on the battlefield. November 11 is Veterans Day (USA) & Remembrance Day (British Commonwealth) – observed on the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended The First World War (1914 / 1918).
